Great Openings for Wedding Speeches

  • Begin by sharing who you are. Not everyone at the wedding will know your connection to the bride and groom

  • Offer some true or fun marital advice
  • Use some quotes that fit the day and the couple; they may be inspirational or amusing

Tips for Maid on Honor Speeches

You have been given the honor of being the maid of honor or the matron of honor at your sister's or close friend's wedding. With that honor comes some oblications. One that may be stressing you out a bit will the the speech that you will be asked to make at the wedding reception.

There are a few tips that will help you out and ensure it is a memorable and momentus speech.

  1. Don't procrastinate. Begin writing your memories of both the bride and the groom as soon as you are given the honor of being the maid or matron of honor.
  2. Early prepartation will give you plenty of time to practice your speech.
  3. Share emotional moments and be sure to include some humorous times as well.
  4. This is mostly about the bride since the best man will be focusing on the groom.
  5. Keep the speech to approximately a five minute rule. The best man will be speaking as well.
  6. Keep your humor to one liners. You are not a stand up comic. Your job is to honor the bride. This is about her, not about you.
  7. Write your speech down and practice, practice, practice. You may use your notes but as reference only. Do not read the entire speech.
  8. Give eye contact to your audience.
  9. Take time to pause between momentous lines, be they serious or humorous.

I am sure this hub will be used as reference material for many weddings to come. Maybe you should expand the theme to a Wedding Planning Book?

this is very useful! and funny, too. :D

the best way to do it is to add a dash of humor to all the things you will tell. they will lighten the occasion, and not bore the audience.
